Hi Everyone!

Here’s Ginger’s portrait! She looks so pretty and proud wearing her crown of red flowers.

Surprise your Valentine with a beautiful portrait. Candy and flowers are nice but they don’t last long, portraits do!

Please contact me about scheduling an appointment. I’m sure it will stop snowing soon!

Thank you,

HAPPY 25th + 1 Year Anniversary to me!!

January 30, 2024

I am so proud to announce that I’ve been in my photography business since January 1998. (Thought this was my 25th year, never was good at math!

A little background many of you already know, but fun to reminisce.

When my first grandchild, Tommy, was born I realized I loved photographing him and I had the patience to do so. After years of photography classes at NOVA, I started working out of my basement which was divided between darkroom and studio. I named by business “Kids in Focus,” and photographed only in black and white. This photo of Tommy (below) was on the cover of Washington Parent in 1999.

Shortly after, my dog, Buddie, (below) entered our lives and I found I also loved photographing dogs. I changed my business name to Kathy Kupka Photography. (I will still photograph two-legged subjects!) My indoor studio is now in my sunroom where I can use natural light and/or strobes.

I joined the Virginia Professional Photographers Association and the Professional Photographers of America in 2000 for continuous education AND fun!! I’ve made new lifelong friends among my fellow photographers.

I feel so fortunate that many of the dogs I’ve photographed over the years (with their own model releases!) ended up in my doggy greeting cards and/or one of my two books, Cancer is Ruff, and Online Dating is Ruff. These precious dogs are helping to make people smile! I can’t thank them and their “parents” enough!

As many of you know, I had to “paws” for a short time when I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2001. My photography was a huge distraction for me. I’m sure all the laughter alone has helped keep me moving and in remission 23 years.

I am so grateful to everyone who has entrusted me to photograph their precious pets and children over the years. So many new friendships have been made and, again, the laughter! It’s been so much fun.

I hope my portraits continue to make you smile. Thank you everyone for your love and support!
